According to a statement signed by the Deputy Chairman, Operations, Amadu Sulley, "The Electoral Commission has upgraded the Biometric Registration Kits (BVR Kits) for the impending limited voter registration and subsequent registration exercises."
The statement further called on political parties and prospective voters in the selected polling stations to participate in the exercise.
According to the acting Public Affairs Director of the EC, Christian Owusu Parry, the Commission started pilot registration in 2012 and this is done before limited registration is carried out.
Speaking to Joy News, Mr. Parry said this became necessary because of the challenges posed by some of the equipment used to capture data of persons who went through the registration.
He said the Commission has upgraded its software system to be able to capture the necessary information for prospective voters in order to make data available to stakeholders when needed.
However, he cautioned first time voters not to consider the pilot registration as a means of getting their names in the main register.
Mr. Parry said the data captured in the course of the registration will not be added to the main EC voter registration database.
He explained that it will not amount to double registration if persons who have already registered join the exercise.
The registration will take place in some selected polling stations in all the ten regions.
It will start at 9:00 a.m and end at 4:00 p.m.
