The government of the United States of America is pledging to collaborate with Ghana’s Electoral Commission and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the integrity of this year’s election.
The information was relayed to President Mahama by the new US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert Jackson, when he presented his letters of credence at the Flagstaff house on Wednesday.
According to him, the commitment of the US to a credible election in Ghana is just one of the many ways of enhancing its relationship with Ghana.
Incidentally, the two countries in November will go to the polls in an activity that is only separated by a day with Ghana going first.
The New Ambassador believes that Ghana will conduct an election devoid of violence in November.
“This is a unique year for our democracies, we have November, your country will vote, 24 hours later and my country will go to the polls. In both cases, I’m confident that it will continue to the traditions of peaceful, credible election.”
“I feel that it’s worth restating that United States’ interest is only in the credibility of the election, it’s up to the people of Ghana to decide their future and we look forward to work with the Electoral Commission, civil society to assist in supporting the next election,” he added.
